Google is set to shut down websites created through Business Profiles, announced on January 9, 2024. As of March, these websites, utilizing information from Business Profiles, will be deactivated, redirecting visitors automatically to the respective Business Profile until June 10. Subsequently, users attempting to access these websites will encounter a “page not found” error.
To maintain an online presence, businesses are urged to reconstruct their sites using alternative platforms. Google suggests utilizing platforms such as:
- Wix
- Squarespace
- GoDaddy
- Google Sites
- Shopify
- WordPress.
This recommendation aligns with the tech giant’s efforts to streamline online experiences and promote efficient business transitions.
A Google spokesperson emphasized, “Websites made with Google Business Profiles are basic websites powered by the information on your Business Profile.” Domains concluding with business.site and negocio.site will be eliminated from the website field on Business Profiles in March, prompting businesses to update their profiles to reference a new website.
This decision has significant implications for businesses managing ad campaigns linked to their Google Business Profile websites. To ensure the continuity of ads, businesses are advised to change the link before March 1 or consider pausing their campaigns.
For those with custom domains directing traffic to Google Business Profile websites, visitors to these domains will be redirected to the Business Profile until June 10. To manage this transition effectively, businesses are encouraged to log in to their hosting company accounts and select the “Redirect” option or a similar feature to reroute third-party domains to alternative websites before the specified date.
The shutdown underscores Google’s commitment to optimizing user experiences and encouraging businesses to adapt to evolving online landscapes. As the deadline approaches, businesses are urged to take proactive measures, creating a new website and updating their Business Profiles promptly to ensure a seamless transition and avoid disruptions to their online presence.
